Where Leadership is Formed

Marielle des Etages, marketing leader with global experience

I don’t believe leadership begins with title or technique. It begins earlier, shaped by experience, environment, and exposure.

Who you are, how you were raised, and the contexts that shaped your early decisions all show up in how you lead. Long before frameworks or strategy decks enter the room, those experiences influence how you read people, interpret situations, and make decisions when information is incomplete.

My own leadership has been shaped by movement, context, and deliberate change. Living and working across cultures taught me early that perspective is never singular, and that effective leadership often depends on making sound decisions as conditions shift. I learned to listen first, observe how people and systems behave under pressure, and understand that clarity doesn’t simply appear. It has to be created.

Learning to Deliver What Matters

I began my career in project management, where precision, coordination, and accountability were non-negotiable. That foundation instilled a principle I still carry: good ideas only matter if they can be delivered.

After earning an MBA in Marketing and Business Analytics from Wake Forest University, I transitioned into brand leadership, where strategic ambition is continually tested by commercial, organizational, and regulatory realities. Since then, my work has focused on building brand equity, guiding innovation, and leading teams in environments where decisions carry real consequence.

Alongside corporate leadership, I invested in learning beyond traditional paths. Executive leadership training at Cornell University, consulting for small businesses, and building a retail business during the pandemic deepened my respect for proximity to the consumer, the weight of everyday trade-offs, and the difference between theory and lived experience.

These experiences reinforced something I believe strongly: leadership is not proven by intention, but by what holds up under pressure.

The Work I Do Now

Marielle des Etages, executive leader with cross-cultural experience

Today, my work sits at the intersection of brand strategy, leadership, and growth. I partner with teams navigating change, helping them sharpen focus, align around what matters, and move forward when clarity is required, not optional.

Across roles, industries, and geographies, a consistent approach defines how I lead. I value clarity over noise, judgment over certainty, and progress over perfection. I believe leadership is as much about removing friction as it is about setting direction, and that calm is not the absence of urgency, but the ability to act with intent when stakes are high.

Whether advising, speaking, or leading from within, I approach my work with the same belief: strong brands and strong leaders are built the same way, through thoughtful decisions, earned trust, and the discipline to act with clarity when it counts.
